Life on Malapascua

Your island base

Life on Malapascua Island.

A small, friendly island in the northern Visayas — world-class diving on your doorstep and an easy pace of life while you train.

The island & the lifestyle

Malapascua is a compact island you can walk across in under half an hour — white-sand beaches, sari-sari shops, beach bars and a tight-knit dive community. There’s no rush here. Most candidates settle into a rhythm of morning dives, study, and easy evenings by the water.

Daily threshers & dive variety

Malapascua is famous for daily sunrise thresher shark dives at Kimud Shoal, around 20 minutes by boat. Beyond the threshers you have the swim-through tunnels of Gato Island, mandarinfish at Lighthouse Reef, and the reefs around Chocolate Island. You’ll log roughly 7–8 dives during your IDC in genuinely world-class water.

Accommodation across budgets

You can stay comfortably whatever your budget — from backpacker rooms to mid-range resorts, most within easy reach of the dive centre. We’ll recommend places that suit how you want to live while you train, and many candidates choose to stay close to the water.

Getting here

Fly into Cebu (CEB), then it’s roughly a 4-hour drive north to Maya port, followed by a 30-minute boat to Malapascua. We can help arrange your transfer and airport pickup so the journey is simple.

What a training day looks like

A typical day blends early boat dives, structured teaching practice and theory with your Course Director, and time to review and relax. Small groups mean you’re never waiting your turn — you get real, hands-on teaching experience every single day.
